My Wishes

I was trying to take a nap yesterday and as I was laying there I thought, I wish... which led to "what do I really really wish?" Like if I could really have what I wished I could have what would it be. So here they are, my top 3, at least for today. They may be completely different tomorrow.

1. I wish I could sing. And not like Celine Dion sing, just sing. Just feel comfortable in church singing the hymns and not worry about who can hear me. Or to my children, I hate that when I sing lullabies or kid's songs I feel like I am ruining their chances of ever being able to carry a tune.

2. I wish I was better at keeping my house clean/organized. I love clean. I love the feeling of walking through my house and not tripping over toys or shoes or whatever. But for some reason it seems impossible. At most I can have 2 rooms clean at a time but rarely more than that and rarely for longer than 30 minutes. (and I don't want to hear, "you have little one's ..." whatever, I know lots of people with "little ones" who's houses are always cleaner than mine.)

3. I wish I could sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas a couple of years ago and I have loved working on the few projects that I've done but it's frustrating how imperfect they always turn out.

So what are your wishes?

Banana Crumbs

Every once in a while I get that domestic urge and try to make something extra yummy. It makes me feel like a good wife and a self-sufficient mother. Seth and his co-workers have been working extra long hours the last couple of weeks and I thought "I should make them some banana bread" 'cause that's what good wives do. I woke up early (OK not real early, actually not any earlier than any other day but it was before 7) and whipped up some tasty banana bread, my sister-in-law found this recipe that calls for 2 cups of sour cream, anything with that much sour cream is bound to be delectable. We "dug" into the first loaf and pretty much finished it off by noon. I figured I would wrap up the other 2 loafs and send them with Seth tomorrow (I had planned on him taking them today but he ran out in hurry and forgot.) So I went in the other room and this is what I found when I got back..... Except there were also two little girls with their grubby little hands deep in each pan. So here's the question:
Did I
A) Laugh outloud and tell them they were in big trouble?
B) Walk in the other room and scream at the top of my lungs?
C) Open the fridge take a big swig of Seth's Cherry Pepsi (I quit drinking caffeine last week) and then smacked them on the bum and sent them to their rooms for the rest of the day?

Baby Laughs!

Ok this is new territory for me... a video. Mostly this is for my mother-in-law who has been gone for a couple of weeks and won't be back for a couple more, but who doesn't love a laughing baby. He is so darn cute!

Remember....

Both my sister-in-law and a friend had this on their blog and since I am at a loss for a post this morning (and feel no shame or guilt in copying) I thought it might be fun/interesting to see.

1. Leave a comment here telling me about one memory that we have together. It doesn't have to be big, just anything you remember.

2. Re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you.

Have Fun!

Randomness

No rhyme or reason to this post just some random pictures and a random thought or two... (I tried to find a better word for random for my more sophisticated readers but the only word that the thesaurus gave was Serendipity and that was just too fancy for our simple life.)

Seth eating a PB & Honey sandwich, who eats a sandwich with a fork? When I got out the camera he said "are you going to blog this?" Thus the expression on his face.

My little helper, I think this may have been the only night all week that I actually made dinner and it only happened because Luc let McKay feed him a bottle.

Also my little photographer, she loves taking pictures but usually they're of her Barbies or Princesses so we feel privileged to be included. (and Seth says we never have pictures of me so here I am in all my glory sans makeup!)

Kimball fell while bundled up in a towel therefore no hands to catch the fall and her nose took the brunt of it. It bled and bled and bled... I can't believe that it wasn't broken. You can tell how happy she was about the whole ordeal.

Desert Sunset. Just a pretty picture.

Happy Birthday to me!!! I have never had a set of nice dishes (we didn't get any of our dishes we registered for when we got married) So my super observant husband took note when I gushed over these plates a couple months ago and he and his parents got me a set of 8 for my birthday, aren't they beautiful?
Just a special moment in the car. (which I'm sure was shortly followed by one of them throwing something at the other one's head but it was sweet while it lasted)
Kimball has this awesome little characteristic, she will laugh hysterically any time you laugh in her face. My dad kept her going for about 10 minutes.
Oh the precious moments, 2/3 sleeping, that's what I call peace.

Seth's New Calling...

Seth is an amazing man, he's a great father and a wonderful husband and now he has a new calling. So take a guess... We can't officially tell anyone until Sunday but since it's on our minds I thought I'd let you all play along. (I am almost positive no one in our ward has ever seen or knows about my blog.)

Here is a list of some of Seth's previous callings:

Activities Committee

EQ Counselor

Young Men's Counselor

Young Men's President

Substitute Primary Teacher

Ward Missionary

Sunday School President

And those of you who already know (Sarah) sorry you don't get to play since it's still officially a secret... shhhhhh!

Work

After dropping Seth off at work yesterday (after lunch) McKay said "mom what is dad doing?" I replied with the same answer I do everytime we leave him at his office "he's working sweety." To which she dared to ask "mom do you EVER work?"

Do I work? Do I work? Are you home with me every day? Do I slave over you? Do I attend to your every need and want? How dare you ask if I work. Count to ten Denise and calmly answer your sweet little child's innocent question.

"Sweety, I work at home. You know how mommy does dishes and laundry and cleans and gives you food when you want it and takes care of you? That's my work."

"Yeah but do you GO to work?"

Breath, breath it's ok, someday 20+ years from now when she's a mother she'll finally understand.

"Sweety who would watch you and take care of you if I went to work?"

"A babysitter"

"Do you want a babysitter to be with you everyday or do you want mommy?" (did I really just ask that question? Brace yourself for the answer.....)

"You mommy."

End of conversation. Does she appreciate all the things I do? Probably not as much as I would like but does she want me home with her? Yes. Then it's all worth it. (Most of the time.)

5 AM!

Last night I decided to take precautions against the early rising of my children. I put curtains up in their room to block the sun from rousing them at the wee hours (and by "put" I mean I took some curtains that I haven't hung yet and draped them over the top of the blinds.) Then I settled in for a nice long sleep.

When Kimball wondered in at 5 I was sure she just needed a drink or to go potty, certainly she couldn't be ready to get up, it's the middle of the night for crying out loud!!! Nope. She was done. Seriously, 5AM!!! Give me a break.

I realize that some of you are wonderful mothers who get up nice and early as to have moments of peace before your little darlings arise, I'm sure their hot breakfast is awaiting them at whatever hour they decide to grace you with their presence and I'm proud of you, but I don't aspire to your greatness... I like me sleep and I like it as long as it can possibly last.

Did I just say that?

Am I the only one who says things (mostly to my children) and then immediately thinks, did I just say that? I do it all the time. Yesterday Kimball came in while I was "working" on the computer and said "mom I want some water" to which I quickly responded (obviously without thinking) "here have some of daddy's soda." My sweet little sugar-aholic just asked for pure natural wholesome water and I offered up Seth's sinful soda. Awesome.

On a much lighter note, as previously mentioned Luscious Little Luc is 5 months old... Here's some of his latest work:

I love it when babies fall asleep in random places. So cute.
I love the fist-pump action! And McKay's "tousled look" hair.
He has such beautiful blue eyes!!!

The look of disgust aimed at the doll Kimball is "sharing" with him says it all.

Tid Bits

Tid Bit #1: I hate laundry. It's neverending and exhausting. I like a job that I can see instant results. From sorting to washing, to switching to the dryer (which sometimes gets forgotten and then I have to rewash) to folding to putting away. By the time I get it all done the baskets are full again and I have to start over. When Seth becomes CEO of some big company (or a small one for that matter, I'm not picky), I don't need fancy clothes or an expensive car just some one to do my laundry for me.

Tid Bit #2: Luc is 5 months old! He is growing way too fast. My girls (especially McKay) stayed little for so long, they were easy to tote around and just so petite. Luc is anything but petite. He's weighing in at 18 lbs. I love his chub. He's rolling over, mostly when I'm not watching. He smiles and laughs a lot and still sleeps really well. He's the perfect third child.

Tid Bit #3: I totally just bailed on my trip to Utah. I can't handle getting the kids all off schedule again after just getting them back to a state of semi-normalcy. I swore I would never be like that but here I am passing up a trip to Utah so that I don't have to deal with grumpy kids. I'm such a mom.

Tid Bit #4: I have tomato buds. They are little and green but they're there. I actually grew something all by myself. Yay for me.

Arizona Wildlife

Check out what we got to watch in my in-law's back yard for 20 minutes or so. It was really cool. They live on a golf course and this little bobcat just wondered into their yard and hung out in the shade for a while. You can tell some of the pics are a little hazy, that's because they were taken through the window. The ones that are clear were taken after we got brave and went out there with him. It still took him a few minutes to leave after we ventured out.

Name that Movie

See if you can guess the movie from the following conversation:

MCKAY: Mom can we watch that movie where Bob is scared of everything?

ME: Bob the builder?

MCKAY: No, the one with the real Bob?

ME: The real Bob? Your Uncle Bob?

MCKAY: No the one where he's crazy?

ME: Did you watch it on the computer?

MCKAY: No on the big tv, you know the one where he's a crazy guy and it's really funny

ME: Oh you mean .......
