Whoever coined the phrase "terrible twos" did so before their child reached the age of three. I watched as my siblings and friends struggled through that dreaded second year with their children. I sat back and listened to their complaits, all along feeling proud of my sweet child who wasn't prone to fits or breakdowns. I wondered secretly "is she perfect or am I really good?", knowing that the latter was probably not the case I deemed her an angel. We danced through meadows of blossoming flowers and skipped about giggling together.
Ok maybe it wasn't quite like that but it sure feels like that's how last year went now that we've reached the "troublesome threes" (a phrase I was unaware of until recently.) I love McKay. 85% of the time (that number is slipping by the day) she is sweet and happy. But the other 15-20% of the time it is nearly unbareable. How can such a tiny, beautiful, sweet, girl turn into such a monster in a split second. Its a transformation usually reserved for sci-fi or horror stories. I don't have the time or energy to even try to expand on the irrationality of her "moments." Screaming "I want Mama" and when I walk in the room "go away, I want mama." OK. Whatever you say.
Does my three year old need Prozac? This can't possibly be normal. Maybe I need Prozac? If it last much longer we're all going to be medicated in some way or another.
Gotta go, she's crying uncontrolably because Seth just changed the channel for about 10 seconds.
Did I mention that my almost 2 year old is absolutely loving this? She has a knack for knowing exactly which buttons to push and I honestly believe that she has a little remote control with a button that says "make sister scream uncontrolably."

Has anyone seen my husband?

Compltely my fault but... my husband is missing. Oh wait is that him behind that book? Word to the wise... if you find a book you absolutely love and spend hours on end reading while neglecting your children and husband, he may just pick up that same book and neglect you right back. Seth has been reading Twilight and New Moon for the past week straight. As we speak (or I guess as I blog) he is finishing New Moon and I'm sure ready to dive right into Eclipse. Little does he know its hidden far away so I can have him back for a few days before I lose him again. I can't blame him though they are great books and if you haven't read them yet, be forwarned, neglect will occur while reading.

Sprouts.... All by myself
Seth worked from home today and when he had about 30 minutes left I realized that I should probably run to Sprouts and get some fruit that my children had been begging for all week. I put on my shoes and then started the daunting task of getting shoes on both the girls and getting them to get to the car in less than 15 minutes (there's so much to see between our apartment and the car, a set of stairs, lots of rocks, one tree stump and more rocks.) McKay promptly told me she was going to stay home with daddy and then Kimball followed suit plopping herself firmly on the floor next to McKay. I allowed hope to enter in for a millisecond before informing them that even though daddy was home he was still technically working so they needed to come. I was met with firm resistance and then hoped even more deeply that my wonderful, dear husband would make an offer I wouldn't refuse. In the end I walked out the door alone and dreamed of all that the child-free shopping trip would hold. I found myself driving a little bit slower than normal, I could actually hear the songs on the radio and started singing along and playing my air drums on the steering wheel. This was going to be a trip not soon forgotten. I love Sprouts, actually it wasn't Sprouts it was the other one that looks just like Sprouts and has the same sales but a different name, wait its coming to me, something Market, Sunflower Market. I love it because I love fresh fruits and veggies and they have great sales. Peaches are .99/lb this week... mmmmm yummy. But I'm not an all natural, granola-y type of person. I buy most things because of their price not their content. Organic=Expensive in my book. But being alone in a grocery store with no children to tug at your pants or teeter precariously out of the cart while reaching for the pyramid of tomatoes is enlightening. I didn't buy much more than I normally would have but let me tell you I looked at nearly every product in that store. I slowly perused the aisles like a chef in search of that perfect ingredient to finish off a gourmet meal. It was amazing. I loved it. My patience is renewed and I have fresh nectarines, what more could I ask for? Coming home to my precious angels makes it even better. (oh and Seth cleaning the kitchen and living room didn't hurt the mood either!)

What are you doing?
I think I ask that question 72 times a day. At some point I will realize that 2 and 3 year old brains don't work quite like an adult brain. I used to think (like as in last week) that McKay was my calm child but she is quickly learning from Kimball how to push all my buttons and make massive messes in the time it takes me to go for a potty break. Am I the only one who cleans my house 4 times a day and still has to explain to my dear husband why it looks like a tornado hit our little apartment when he gets home from work? I've learned to clean 5 minutes before he gets home but still spotless is unheard of around here. Do I sound tired? I am. So just for the fun of it we thought we'd throw one more wee one into the mix, which may be part of the reason I'm tired. I'm sure I will be full of energy and spunk in Feb after birthing the little guy (hoping for a boy.) If I haven't lost my mind by then I surely will shortly thereafter.
The reason for the title of this blog, yes she is eating a cube of butter! We may have to watch her cholesterol levels later in life.

Our little fashionista! Lookin' good.

Nothing like a good sword fight with the noodles to settle them down for bedtime! Thanks Dad!

Inspiration
Ok so I just finished reading some posts on a friend's blog and I'm inspired. Although at the current moment I'm not sure what exactly I am being inspired to do other than post something, what exactly I'm not sure, maybe I should have waited for more inspiration. The problem is I don't know when or if I will get another chance. The girls are both sleeping and Seth went to run some homemade soup* over to some friends. (*homemade meaning that the 5 ingredients were all mixed together by us, not me, Seth actually, and set to simmer in my crockpot in my home, thus qualifying it for homemade status, even if 4 of the 5 ingredients came from a can.) The other problem is that my friend who has such an inspiring blog is also the new mother of her 6th child, and by new I mean less than a week. So if she has time to blog and make it interesting enough for me to spend time reading it during my precious quiet time than I really should be able to blog something worth reading... but probably not.
So now I'm sitting here with nothing exciting to say and the sinking feeling that maybe inspiration isn't enough and this will end up worse than if I had just left my pitiful blog the way is was before I was presented with these 30 minutes of uninterrupted bliss.
ok I give up, I guess I'll just post some more pictures of my blonde beauties and hope that makes up for my "writer's block."

Our Little Angels
Well these are our "angels." McKay is 3 and just a little peanut, she's weighing in it a whopping 23 lbs. Kimball will be 2 in October and she really keeps me busy. McKay has always been fairly calm and laid back child, Kimball is the exact opposite. She's a chatter box and she is always making us laugh. At the current moment she is telling me she wants to go outside and that she wants a piece of toast and can she please play on the computer. McKay on the other hand is watching Curious George and hasn't said 2 words since it started, if I let her she would watch PBS for 5 hours straight. She is also a character though, she loves anything princess and is often in search of a prince that she can marry. Anyway, here are some recent photos.

First Attempt at Being a Blogger
Ok, so I have decided that its time to try out this blogging thing. I can't seem to keep a journal (Seth does that for us) but since I can find endless things to waste my time online, I might as well do something worth while. So here goes. Welcome to the Avey Family Blog!
