Little Man

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nash!

Our Little Man turns ONE today!  That quite possibly could have been the fastest year of my life.  He is such a joy to have in our home.  The kids have nicknamed him "the happy-maker" because whenever someone is "having a moment" we put them in a room with Nash and it's pretty much impossible to stay grumpy with this little dude smiling at you.

We love you Nashy, Happy Birthday buddy.

My Little Monster

Looks can be deceiving!

At first glance you may think this is just an innocent little baby, incapable of wreaking havoc on the world around him, but you'd be wrong.  Very, Very wrong.

He is by far my busiest baby.  Either that or I am getting older and I just don't keep up as well but I'm not that old and I prefer to place the blame fully on his tiny little mischievous shoulders.

Luc had a doctor's appointment today and naively I thought taking Nash would be just fine.  In fact I didn't even question it.  He's a baby.  I always tote my babies around with me.  An hour in the doctor's office felt like an eternity and I was exhausted when we left.

He was running (seriously running) around the waiting room, laughing and throwing magazines off chairs as he whizzed by.  Then I sat him down in a little chair with a book thinking that he would possibly stay still for 30 seconds.  Luc asked for my ipod so I took 10 seconds to look in my purse and when I turn back he's standing on the chair doing squats, that's how he dances.  I grabbed him before the mother sitting next to us had a heart attack.  He then grabs Luc's shirt and tries to pull him off the chair, Luc thinks Nash is hilarious (for the time being) so he starts laughing which makes Nash keep going.  All of this seems to go on and on in cycles, first he's laughing, then running around then throwing magazines on the ground, crawling under the occupied chairs where I have no way of reaching him.  Crazy!

Half the people in the waiting room were laughing and half of them were looking at me like "why can't this lady control her child?"

It continued in the exam room but I won't bore you with all the details.  He has so much energy.  And he is so incredibly curious.

I need a nap.  Every single day, I need a nap but how can I take a nap with a little monster running around.  Oh and he takes naps just long enough for me to clean up his last mess.

It's a dang good thing he's so flippin' cute!

Little Man’s Trip to the ER

photo (8) - CopySo a couple nights ago Seth was a little frustrated with the fact that we haven’t had a lot of “us” time lately. He said we really just needed an evening with just the 2 of us (which at this point almost always at this point includes our favorite Little Man, Nash.)
Last night we got our evening out together. Maybe not exactly the setting we were hoping for but we did spend 4 hours, just us and Nash. At The Phoenix Children's Hospital ER. So fun.
Nash took a little tumble off the girls’ bed. (Not the first time one of our children has fallen off the bed.) But it definitely was the first time that a child has been knocked out and quit breathing due to said fall! Scariest moment of my life. McKay came running into the kitchen holding a very limp non-responsive baby in her arms and my heart stopped. Poor little guy. We called 911, Seth gave him a blessing, he came to and started crying and of course when the wonderful firemen showed up he started smiling and waving at them.
Luckily we didn’t have to take an ambulance, they let us take him on our own but made us promise we would take him to the ER. A neighbor friend came to see if everything was ok and took the girls to her house.
Once we got there. Nash was pretty much back to his normal self. They did a ct scan just to be sure. He has a nice little concussion and we’ve been told to “not let him bonk his head for a few months”!! So wish us luck with that.
Poor little McKay is just beside herself with guilt. She had been playing on the bed with him when he fell and she was so worried he was “not going to make it.” I felt so bad for her. Gratefully Seth’s mom came down while we were at the hospital and loved and comforted them until we got home.
So our date was very exciting. Not exactly what we were wanting/needing but we are just so grateful that he is ok and back to himself this morning.
No more babies jumping on the bed!

Seth's version of the story sent to his friend in an email (a little more detail for future reference and because I'm sure I will forget.):

That was one of the scariest moments of my life.  I felt completely helpless when he wasn't breathing.  I had quick flashbacks of our poor nephew passing away and I was terrified.  McKay was the one playing with him on the bed when he fell so she felt responsible.  She was running around completely freaking out.  She kept saying, "Is my little brother going to die?"  I gave him a quick blessing while Denise was on the phone with the fire department and I had the feeling that he was going to be okay when he grabbed my hands and tried to push them away (it's funny, I just remembered that).  After that he started screaming like a banchee so at least we knew he was breathing.  The fire department showed up super fast and by the time they got into the house he was sitting up and looking around.  He was not all the way back to his normal self, but he was moving around just fine.  We knew he'd be okay, but they said that we had to take him to the hospital to be sure.  In the ER we were pushed to the front of the line and got in to see a doctor really fast.  We were in the exam room when Nash was up against the glass making faces at the nurses as they walked by.  Four hours later we were leaving with a clean bill of health.

Today's Goal

I think it's just crazy how I can feel both completely overwhelmed and immensely blessed all at the same time.  There are moments in my day when I just think "oh crap, I don't know if I can do this anymore."  I just want to give up.

It's usually after having cleaned all day and feeling like I'd accomplished something then I go take a shower or go to the bathroom and come back and see that every room that I had spent hours cleaning has been completely destroyed in a matter of minutes.  Or after "slaving" over a meal, spending 20 minutes at the dinner table fighting kids to eat even just a few bites.  Those are the moments when I just feel like I want to give in.  Give up.  Scream.

In the middle of it all I wish I had the presence of mind to just step back from it all and focus on what I have.  Because there are also sweet moments in every day when I am acutely aware of the abundance of blessings that I have.  I have such a good life.  I have everything I need and so much more.

My goal today (just today, let's not be overly ambitious here) is to try to remember those blessings when I am ready to give up.  I love my life.  That should be my go to thought "I LOVE MY LIFE."

I'll let you know how that works out for me.

Easter Weekend

What a crazy, busy weekend.  Here it is in pictures for you.

8:00 am Kimball's soccer game.

9:00 am song rehearsal for the girls.  They sang with their two friends in sacrament meeting today and it was so incredibly sweet.
10:30 am Primary activity (Easter Egg Hide - so much fun)

1:00 pm Easter Egg hunt at our house.  Nash only wanted to carry his basket around.  He couldn't have cared less about the eggs.

3:30pm  Pick up dresses from being altered.  Except one of them wasn't ready.
4:00 pm  Start getting the girls ready.  Do Hailie's hair and make-up and Luise's hair.
4:45 pm  Pick up second dress
5:15 pm  Hailie's date picks her up

5:45 pm  Take pictures at Seth's parents house.

6:30 pm  Luise's date picks her up.

8:00 pm  Quick clean the house.  Send Seth to the store to get snacks in case the girls bring their dates back to watch a movie.

10:00 pm  Watch tv/fall asleep sitting up!

Sunday Morning!

We made it to church 15 minutes early and all the kids looked adorable.  Too bad there wasn't time for pictures before church because by the time we got home they were all looking disheveled, good thing they are cute!

A little Mario Kart while I slept and Seth vegged on the couch.

Then we got to go to our good friend Kelli's house for Easter dinner.  It was so much fun.  I tried a new recipe for Easter Bread.  It was really good and mostly they were really cute!

My Little Man

I know I have said this about a thousand times, but I am so in love with this little guy.

He's growing too fast.

He's walking.  Has been for about a month.

He has his brother and sisters tied around his little finger.  What he wants he gets.

He loves faces.  He touches our faces and mouths all the time.  And by "touches" I mean pinches, pokes, scratches, slaps, and fish-hooks.  He's actually quite a bully.  But if you have to be bullied wouldn't you want to be bullied by him?
